Make It Monday: Gathered Chains Headband

**New Update**
I have changed the pattern to reflect my original idea better. I have also added three new sizes! New pics coming soon.

Sizes: Newborn, (Baby, Toddler, Child)
Finished Circumference: 12" (14”, 16", 18")
Yarn: Worsted Weight
Yardage: Headband Approx: 12 yds (14 yds, 16 yds, 20 yds)
       Flower Approx: 14 yds
Crochet Hook: Size I (5.5 mm). Adjust hook size as necessary to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 16 chains = 4"
Materials: ½" or ¾" button

Abbreviations:
ch: chain
rnd: round
rep: repeat
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch

Notes:
  • ·        Sizes are named based on average sizes for age. For best results make the size which best correlates with the desired finished circumference (if known).

  • ·        To make larger sizes increase the starting chains by multiples of 11. Increase repeats by one for every multiple of 11 that you add to starting chain.

Newborn, (Baby, Toddler, Child)

Ch 65, (76, 87, 98)

Rnd 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each of next 4 ch (total of 5 sc), *ch 7, skip next 10 ch, sc in next ch* rep from * to * for a total of 5 (6, 7, 8) times, 4 sc, turn.

Rnd 2: ch 1, 5 sc, *ch 10, skip 7 ch, sc in next sc* rep from * for a total of 5 (6, 7, 8) times, 4 sc.

Finish off. Weave in ends. Sew on button.

The flower is optional.  The pattern can be found here:

I just started with a ch 6 instead of ch 4.  This will make a hole big enough that you can slip the flower over the button, which also means you can make interchangeable flowers!

  2. Super darling! I love how the button fits through the flower. I cannot wait to make this for some friends expecting a little girl. (And then I'll feature your pattern on my blog, ChemKnits!)

    1. The post will be up later this spring/early summer (after the baby girl it is for is born, her mama reads my blog.) The pictures are now up on Ravelry under the username chemknitsblog. I think it is a little small for my 3 month baby boy, but I will try to see if he will model it when he wakes up in the morning. :)

  4. Thank you for this adorable pattern. My question is where are the button holes? Are you talking about the sc between the 7chains?

    1. Sorry for the late reply, I just now realized all comments on the blog were being automatically filtered into an email folder I don't check! But yes I used a button small enough to fit in between the sc's at the end of the headband.
